Fourth Grade Service Learning Project

See You Tonight at the Blaze Pizza Fundraiser!

The fourth graders will be collecting candy from November
2–9 to benefit the Los Angeles Veterans' Association as
part of their service-learning project. We invite our Clairbourn families to participate by donating wrapped candy to support this meaningful cause!

You can also support our project by joining us for a Blaze Pizza Fundraiser today from 3–7 pm at the Arcadia location: Blaze Pizza, 815 W. Naomi Avenue, Arcadia

Life at Clairbourn

Creativity, Costumes, and Cougar Spirit!

Last week was filled with exciting adventures and Halloween fun! The Kindergarten students kicked off their first field trip of the year with a visit to the Cal Poly Pomona Pumpkin Patch. They enjoyed a hayride, met friendly farm animals, explored the corn maze and sunflower patch, and, of course, picked out their very own pumpkins.

Back on campus, Halloween brought plenty of surprises! Superheroes listened intently during library class, Mozart made a special appearance to teach music, and Cougars showed off their creativity and imagination throughout the day. A shout-out to the Middle School band, under the baton of Mr. Elmore and Mr. Aguilar, for a thrilling rendition of the theme song from The Addams Family—featuring the iconic finger snaps, familiar melodies, and a jazzy trio section that had everyone's toes tapping. Thank you to all who were able to attend and support our musicians. The Halloween parade was another highlight, bringing our school community together as students, faculty, and staff proudly showed off their costumes.

The festivities also reinforced an important message from Red Ribbon Week: You don't need a costume to be a superhero. There's a superhero inside each of us! What a spooktacular week to celebrate as a school community.

Honoring Loved
Ones Through Día
de los Muertos

Each year on November 1 and 2, El Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is celebrated in Mexico and among those of Mexican heritage in the United States and around the world. During this Mexican holiday, families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief 24-hour reunion that includes food, drink, and celebration.

Middle School students celebrated El Día de los Muertos in Spanish class. They watched a video and sang along to a song with lyrics explaining the tradition of bringing flowers and the deceased's favorite foods to the cemetery (“La gente lleva flores al cementerio. Llevan la comida favorita de los muertos”).

The song also explained how people decorate graves with photos, candles, and skulls to remember and celebrate loved ones who are no longer with them (“La gente decora las tumbas con fotos, velas, y calaveras para recordar, para celebrar a los que ya no estan”).

The cultural celebration filled Spanish class with song, laughter, and opportunities to learn about this traditional Mexican holiday, all while students enjoyed a delicious, refreshing drink of horchata. What a fun way to celebrate this special day!

Red Ribbon Week: Making Good Choices Together

In celebration of Red Ribbon Week, Clairbourn students participated in a buddy activity focused on making healthy, safe, and responsible choices. This year’s theme, “Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free” encouraged students to think about how their everyday decisions can make a positive difference.

During the activity, buddies played a game of bingo featuring important reminders such as using kind words, being a good friend, eating healthy foods, staying active, and practicing safety both in person and online.

Following the game, students were invited to sign red paper strips as a pledge to make good choices. The strips were then connected to create a chain symbolizing our school community’s shared commitment to making positive decisions.
This meaningful activity reminded students even small choices can make a big difference and that together, we can support one another in building a healthy, safe, and caring school community.

First Graders Shine a Light
on Diwali

A special thank you to our parent visitor for coming into our first-grade classroom to share the traditions of Diwali. Students learned that Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights and celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. They also learned about the five days of Diwali, including welcoming good fortune, celebrating the victory of good over evil, lighting diyas (small oil lamps), showing gratitude, and celebrating the special bond between siblings.

It was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about this meaningful cultural tradition and how families celebrate.

Meet Toothless Arlo Irwin!

Two weeks ago, I-Lab students submitted their favorite names for the class pet lizard, which were narrowed down to three finalists: Toothless, Arlo, and Irwin. Each name had a special meaning. Arlo was a favorite among fourth- and fifth-grade students, while Irwin was nominated by an eighth grader in honor of Steve Irwin and his family. Toothless was inspired by the beloved dragon from How to Train Your Dragon.

The final vote took place on November 3, coinciding with Election Day. After an exciting round of voting by students in first through eighth grades, as well as faculty and staff, Toothless won by a landslide! But rather than choosing just one name, students decided to combine all three, making Toothless the first name, Arlo the middle name, and Irwin the last name. Please join us in welcoming Toothless Arlo Irwin to the Clairbourn family!

The Art of Storytelling: Celebrating Native American Heritage

In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, Student Council presented the work of Wendy Red Star, a contemporary Native American artist and photographer from the Apsáalooke (Crow) Nation, during Morning Assembly.

Red Star uses photography, humor, and creativity to celebrate her cultural heritage, challenge stereotypes, and share Native American perspectives on history. Her photography series Four Seasons demonstrates how her artwork challenges historical representations and brings attention to stories that are often overlooked.

The presentation emphasized the importance of cultural understanding, respecting different perspectives, and using creativity to share meaningful stories.
