Small Donation, Warm Toes: It’s Socktober!

Do you know what month it is? It’s Socktober!

Socktober is a special time when we donate brand-new socks to people in need. Join Captain Sock-ta-Pants in his quest to defeat blisters everywhere by placing brand-new socks in the collection box at transportation by the end of October.

Thank you for helping our friends at Door of Hope and Hillsides keep their feet warm and blister-free!
Entrepreneurial Fair

We are excited for our 11th annual Entrepreneurial Fair! Students are welcome to join the fun by selling their homemade arts and crafts or providing a specialty service.

This event will take place on Friday, November 6, at 3 pm on the field. Please remember to sign up and purchase your booth rental in advance, as space is limited.

Third Grade Market Day: A Huge Success!

Over the past few weeks, our third-grade students have been hard at work learning about economic principles and putting their knowledge into action! Working in pairs, students brainstormed ideas, developed products, and experienced the manufacturing process firsthand. Our classrooms were filled with creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, laughter, and plenty of googly eyes!

All their hard work paid off as Market Day was a huge success. Our third graders became producers, proudly selling their goods to parents and second-grade students. There was an exciting buzz throughout the Multipurpose Building as students showcased their products, negotiated prices with customers, struck deals, and made sales. Smiles were everywhere as happy customers walked away with their purchases.

It was wonderful to see our students bring their learning to life while demonstrating creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurial spirit.

What a memorable Market Day for everyone involved!
Fourth Grade Service Learning Project

Candy Collection & Blaze Pizza Fundraiser

The fourth graders will be collecting candy from November
2–9 to benefit the Los Angeles Veterans' Association as
part of their service-learning project. We invite our Clairbourn families to participate by donating wrapped candy to support this meaningful cause!

You can also support our project by joining us for a Blaze Pizza Fundraiser on Thursday, November 5, from 3–7 pm at the Arcadia location: Blaze Pizza, 815 W. Naomi Avenue, Arcadia

Please remember to bring the fundraiser flyer and show it when paying so that your purchase receives credit toward our fundraiser. The funds raised will help cover the shipping costs for the donated candy.

Thank you for helping our fourth graders make a difference in the community. We appreciate your generosity and support!

October: Drop Everything and Build

Spiders Take Flight in Middle School Engineering Challenge

Last week, for the October Drop Everything and Build, Middle School students were challenged to build a parachute that could land a plastic spider closest to the bullseye of a target. Parachutes were constructed from coffee filters and paper, and the engineers tested a variety of designs to give their plastic spiders the farthest flight and the most control. Many engineers were surprised by the results during testing, and they worked diligently to improve their designs.

In eighth grade, the runners-up were Emma and Angela, and the spider that flew the farthest had a parachute built by Kaitlin, Daniel, and Naveen. In seventh grade, the runners-up were Lara and Jennifer, and the parachute built by Summer and Lucas took the spider the farthest.

In sixth grade, the runners-up were Tina and Evangeline, and the spider that landed closest to the center of the target in the entire Middle School had a parachute designed and built by Jessica and Katherine. Well done, Cougar Engineers!

Young Cougars Think Like Engineers

Designing, Building,
and Testing Boats

Our JPK, PK, and Kindergarten students are putting the engineering design process into action! Inspired by The Three Billy Goats Gruff, students began by learning to empathize with the goats and define the problem: how to get all three safely across the river while avoiding the troll on the bridge. They also identified the design constraints: their boats must float, hold three plastic goats, and make it across the river.

Students investigated and tested materials, recorded observations, and used planning sheets to develop ideas before building their first boat prototypes. They then headed to the rain gutters on their classroom patios to test their boats, make improvements, and test again. Up next, students will explore how sails and wind help boats move.

We can’t wait to welcome families to campus for STEM Night to help build sails for the final designs! Don’t forget to log in to Vidigami and check out more photos.
