Parent Read-Alouds
Parents are invited to read aloud in the classrooms from Tuesday, October 13, through Thursday, October 15. The read-aloud books were delivered to classrooms this Wednesday. Simply sign up with your child’s class, choose a book, and take a little time to prepare. We look forward to welcoming you into the classrooms!

Clairbourn Insights
Last week, the seventh- and eighth-grade classes went to the Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) for three days. Students snorkeled, touched sharks, examined plankton under a microscope, climbed a hill to stargaze, and climbed a different hill to watch the sunrise.
Each day, our Cougars got to do something they had never done before. For some of them, putting on a wetsuit and getting into the ocean was new. For others, snorkeling with Garibaldi fish and round rays was new. Many students tried a climbing wall for the first time, and for everyone, it was the first time they had climbed a rock wall at night. Balancing on a whale’s tail was also a new experience. Every person in the seventh and eighth grades got to challenge themselves in some way during the trip.
Thank you to Mr. Beaber, Mrs. Pazin, Ms. Vinnedge, and Mr. Woo for spending three days on an island with us! We hope everyone looks forward to their chance to have a new adventure at CIMI one day.

Third Graders Put Economics Into Action
Over the past two weeks, the third-grade students have been learning about economic principles. Now, they’re taking what they’ve learned and applying it to real-world situations. The students have teamed up in pairs, brainstormed ideas about what they could produce, and are now in the manufacturing process. Our classrooms have been filled with lots of problem-solving, laughter, and googly eyes! It has been wonderful to see such great teamwork, creativity, and enthusiasm from the students.

| | Student Safety
To help students participate safely in all school activities, we are updating our expectations for fingernails effective immediately. Students’ fingernails must be kept short and neatly trimmed, and press-on or other artificial nails are not permitted. This statement will be added to next year’s student handbook, but the expectation is in effect now. Thank you for helping your child come to school ready to participate. |
All Volunteers Must Be Fingerprinted
A new law requires all school volunteers who interact with children to be fingerprinted. Parents who were not able to complete fingerprinting on campus can do so at the Live Scan office. The school has an account at 80 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA 91024 (inside Mailbox & Postal, across from the Sierra Madre Playhouse) for this purpose, and parents can complete the process at a time that is convenient for them. Please fill out the form ahead of time.
