Parent/Teacher Conference Day

Wednesday, October 7, is Parent/Teacher Conference Day for JPK through Grade 5

For JPK through Grade 5 students, follow this link to schedule a conference time with your child’s teacher. Use event code: fau26. Follow the instructions on each page and schedule your in-person meeting. You will receive an email confirmation of your Conference Day booking.

School Bookings will close on October 5 at 3 pm, so please book your conference time before then. It is vital that parents keep to this schedule and end their appointments in a timely manner. If you think you will need more time, please discuss this with your teacher during the appointment.

Middle School conferences on October 7 are for sixth-grade parents and parents of seventh- or eighth-grade students who are new to the school and haven’t already met with the Middle School teaching team. Watch for a letter from Mrs. Taylor with details. As always, teachers are available any time to address any concerns you may have.

Please note there is NO SCHOOL on Parent/Teacher Conference Day on Wednesday, October 7.

School Reminders

All Volunteers Must Be Fingerprinted

A new law requires all school volunteers who interact with children to be fingerprinted.

Parents who were not able to complete fingerprinting on Tuesday at the CFA meeting can do so at the Live Scan office. The school has an account at 80 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA 91024 (inside Mailbox & Postal, across from the Sierra Madre Playhouse) for this purpose, and parents can complete the process at a time that is convenient for them. Please fill out the form ahead of time.

In addition, we arranged another mobile Live Scan service on campus Tuesday, September 29, from 7:30 am to 9:30 am. Please fill out the form ahead of time. You will need a physical driver’s license or passport. Photos or copies of your ID will not be accepted.

Please note that parents must complete both the Live Scan fingerprinting form and the volunteer form on CougarNet before they can volunteer. Thank you for helping us keep our school compliant and safe.

CougarNet Forms:

A friendly but important reminder to please make sure both parents have signed the required forms on CougarNet. These forms must be completed for students to attend school, so if you haven’t finished them yet, please take a moment to do so as soon as possible.

If the forms are not completed by the end of the month, your child will not be able to attend class until all required forms are complete. Thank you for taking care of this important requirement!

Playground Usage:

Before school, please bring students directly to their classrooms rather than stopping at either playground. If your child is using the playground after school, please stay nearby to supervise. We also ask that families clear the Preschool playground by 3:30 pm and the Randall Hall playground by 4:30 pm so our after-school programs can safely use these spaces.

Transportation:

Please use the yellow card with your student’s QR code during transportation and place it on your dashboard.

Vidigami Support Session with the Marketing Team

October 1 at 8:30 am in the Manor House

Join the Marketing team for a Vidigami support session. We’ll cover how to log in, troubleshoot login issues, navigate the platform, star your favorites, use the tagging feature, and complete weekly uploads.

Sixth Grade Pali Adventures

Our sixth graders had a jam-packed trip filled with adventure, teamwork, and plenty of smiles! Students challenged themselves on the zip line and the ropes course, worked in groups for team-building activities and archery, dissected owl pellets, and bonded while singing fun songs together at karaoke. It was wonderful to see students laughing, encouraging one another, and embracing new experiences.

September Drop Everything and Build

The Swing Challenge

For the first Drop Everything & Build of the new school year, the Middle School students were challenged to build a swing that could hold the most weight. The swing was a strawberry basket, and the engineers were given straws, binder clips, rubber bands, and other materials to build the structure. Some teams focused on building support structures first, while other teams focused on the basket itself. Either way, balance was a key property of successful swings. And some engineers seemed particularly grateful to have unlimited tape.

In eighth grade, the runners-up were Kaitlin and Xenia, and the strongest swing was built by Ariel and Naveen. In seventh grade, two teams tied for the strongest swing: Everest and Autumn; and Rodwin, Stanley, and Penelope. And in sixth grade, the runners-up were Emma T. and Jessica, and the team that built the strongest swing in the entire Middle School—holding more than twice as much weight as any other structure across all three grade levels—was Walter and Francis. Well done, Cougar engineers!

Math Team

These enthusiastic students have joined the team to challenge themselves in mathematics, think critically and creatively through new and challenging application problems, and represent Clairbourn in local and national competitions.

We have a wonderful mix of familiar and new faces who are ready to tackle difficult problems, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and push themselves beyond what they may encounter in their regular math classes. The team meets two mornings each week before school, and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish throughout the year! Here’s to a year filled with teamwork, perseverance, growth, and, of course, MATH!

If you still need to order your photos, please visit JostensPix order and use event code FE68026 (all numbers). If you need a retake, come to the Manor House on October 14, following Morning Assembly.

All original and retake photos will be accessible and can be ordered online. However, please note that the retake photo will always be the one included in the yearbook. If anyone prefers to have the original image instead of the retake in the yearbook, they can contact the JostensPix customer care team to request a change.
