A new law aimed at protecting children requires all volunteers at schools who interact with children to be fingerprinted. This only has to be done once while you remain enrolled at Clairbourn (not renewed each year).

 

To make the process easier for families, Clairbourn has arranged for a mobile Live Scan service on campus during the first CFA Meeting on September 22 starting at 9 am. Please fill out the form ahead of time.

 

At Clairbourn, we value the partnership between home and school and the joy of sharing our students' learning journey with the people who support them most. This year, we are excited to introduce Classroom Connections, a new opportunity for parents and grandparents to step into the classroom and experience learning in action.

 

 

Once each trimester, every grade level will host its own Classroom Connections morning. Following our morning assembly, visitors will be welcomed into the classroom for approximately 30–60 minutes to see firsthand the engaging learning taking place each day. Because each grade will host on a different day, every classroom can showcase experiences that are unique to its students and curriculum. Depending on the lesson, visitors may be invited to participate alongside students or simply observe presentations, demonstrations, discussions, and other meaningful learning activities. We also hope that the shorter morning format makes it easier for working parents to join us without needing to take a half day away from work, allowing more families to share in these special moments.

 

 

By spreading these visits throughout the school year, Classroom Connections provides multiple opportunities to celebrate authentic student growth as it unfolds. Rather than capturing a single moment in time, families will experience different stages of the learning journey while students enjoy sharing their accomplishments with those who encourage them every day. When we think about sending a spacecraft to another planet or into space, we ask questions like, “What will it look for?” or “How can we get it to its destination?” But when was the last time we asked, “What will it be made of?” The materials that are chosen need to be suitable for the mission’s goals and locations. Reactivity is a chemical property of materials that must be considered. For example, Jupiter’s moon Europa has shown signs that it may be home to active plumes ejecting material into space. Upon arrival, the Europa Clipper spacecraft will look for these plumes and, if they exist, will fly through them to collect samples. Engineers designing the spacecraft had to choose materials that would withstand coming into contact with the plumes without reacting in a way that would damage the spacecraft.

 

In science class, the eighth grade has been studying the physical and chemical properties of matter. The students applied their knowledge of the chemical property of reactivity to the Spacecraft Materials lab, where they were tasked with determining the best metal for building a spacecraft to explore a moon with chemistry much different from Earth’s.
