Honoring Veterans with a Service Learning Project

Join Fourth Graders at Dave & Buster’s on Tuesday, November 11, 4 - 7pm.

The fourth grade is excited to invite all Clairbourn families to a special Veteran's Day fundraiser on Tuesday, November 11, from 4 – 7 p.m., at Dave & Buster’s at the Santa Anita Mall!

This event supports our service learning project in partnership with Soldier's Angels, where fourth graders will be making blankets and heartfelt cards to honor veterans who have served and sacrificed for our country.
Simply enjoy food, games, and fun with your family and friends during the event window, and a portion of the proceeds will go directly toward purchasing materials for the blankets.

Please remember to show the flyer (printed or digital) when you arrive so our school receives credit. To help us earn the most from the event, please make sure all purchases—including food, non-alcoholic drinks, new or recharged game cards—are made directly with our event staff.

Here is the link to download the flyer. Every purchase made through them increases the giveback to our school. Thank you for helping our fourth graders honor our veterans through kindness, gratitude, and service. We can’t wait to see you there!

Dia de los Muertos

Honoring Tradition with Color, Culture,
and Connection!

Día de los Muertos is a vibrant celebration that originated in Mexico, created to honor ancestors and recently departed loved ones. The holiday is filled with autumnal colors, festive foods, joyful gatherings, and the creation of an ofrenda—an altar adorned with photos of cherished family members, friends, and loved ones.

In Spanish class, students celebrated El Día de los Muertos by tasting Pan de Muerto, or “Bread of the Dead,” a traditional Mexican sweet bread made especially for this occasion. They also enjoyed ice-cold horchata, a creamy drink made from soaked rice, cinnamon, and sugar. Music and laughter were shared and enjoyed by all during this festive and cultural activity.

Fourth and Fifth Grade Election Day

Our fourth and fifth graders participated in a fun and educational Election Day activity! After narrowing down the candidates in last week’s Candy Primary, the final contenders—Kit Kat from The Cocoa Coalition and Skittles from The Sweet and Sour Alliance—faced off in the big election.

Students rotated through activities to write campaign speeches, design political posters, and learn about the voting process. They presented their speeches and cast their ballots for the winning candy. At the end, Kit Kat won the vote! Cougars had a great time learning about the election process and the importance of participating as active citizens—while enjoying some sweet fun along the way!
Unleash the Magic of Halloween at Clairbourn

A morning concert, parades of creative costumes, and plenty of smiles made it a boo-tiful day for our students and faculty!

For over 15 years, it’s been a beloved Clairbourn tradition for the Clairbourn Band to kick off Halloween morning at the assembly with a spirited performance.
This year, the band delighted the audience with an arrangement of Thriller. The performance brought plenty ofenthusiastic audience interaction! In addition to the music, students and faculty embraced the Halloween spirit with a lively costume parade, showcasing their creativity and excitement for the season.

Thank you, Clairbourn Band, for a "spooktacular" performance, and to everyone who made this Halloween one to remember! Log in to Vidigami to view and download more photos! Please email Mrs. Zamora for Vidigami support.

Art in Action:
From Weaving
to Surrealism

Creativity was in full swing across grade levels last month as students explored both tactile and imaginative forms of art.

In grades 1 to 3, students strengthened their problem-solving abilities, perseverance, and fine motor skills through weaving projects that required patience and focus. First graders practiced paper weaving, second graders created colorful yarn weavings on boards, and third graders took it a step further with intricate radial yarn weavings using needles and yarn to move in circular patterns.

Meanwhile, middle school students took inspiration from surrealist artist Max Ernst. In 1925, Ernst looked down at a textured wood floor and discovered a new idea. By placing paper over the surface and rubbing it with a pencil, he discovered unexpected patterns. He called this technique frottage, a form of surrealist automatism. Inspired by Ernst’s approach, our middle school artists experimented with texture and imagination to create their own pieces.

Check out the incredible creations in the Robert Nafie Administration Building from our young artists!

Native American Heritage Month

November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and honor Indigenous people and their contributions to our culture and society.

This week, Student Council introduced Joy Harjo, the United States Poet Laureate, who was born in Oklahoma in 1951 and is a member of the Muscogee Nation. Harjo has published 11 books of poetry and produced seven music albums. She shares that her art is inspired by the strong women in her family as well as influential female artists and leaders.

Her poems remind us to notice and appreciate the small things in life. Through her expressive voice and many accomplishments, Joy Harjo truly embodies what it means to be a Scholar and Leader with Heart.

Clairbourn Gift Policy

Gratitude is always welcome, but a gift is
never necessary.
A kind note or a genuine thank you is always meaningful.

Clairbourn has a stated gift policy for all employees:

• Employees may only accept gifts and/or gift cards that have a value of $100 or less.

• Employees may accept a gift and/or gift card of over $100 only if it is a collective gift and each individual’s contribution is $100 or less (i.e. the Scrip Gift at the holidays and end of the year).

Please help us by following this policy. If you feel you must do more than the note or word of thanks, please consider contributing to the group Scrip gifts at the holidays and at the end of the year. Please do not put any employees in an awkward situation by ignoring the policy. If an employee receives something of higher value, the excess must be returned or will be donated to the school.

Thank you for helping us create an inclusive environment!
