Clairbourn Insights

Always believe in yourself and never give up.

September 15 is International Dot Day and is celebrated all over the world by millions of people! International Dot Day is inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The book is about a little girl who did not think she could draw and the story teaches us about being brave, creative and believing in yourself!

Our first graders participated in an International Dot Day activity by using their creativity and making their own dot designs and pictures. The artwork is hanging on the classroom walls as a reminder to always believe in yourself and never give up!
Hispanic Heritage Month

Student Council leads the way to celebrate and honor Hispanic Heritage Month!

Each year from September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the contributions of Hispanic Americans to our culture and society. This year, Student Council kicked off the celebration by introducing the extraordinary career of Cuban American swimmer Dara Torres. (photo credit: www.daratorres.com)

Torres made history across five Olympic Games from 1984 to 2008. At 41, she set an American record in the 50-meter freestyle and became the oldest swimmer ever to
medal. Beyond the pool, she champions cancer research, has authored books, and inspires as a motivational speaker.

Student Council also interviewed our middle school Spanish teacher, Profe Lucas, on her view as a Hispanic American, Latina, and Chicana. Profe spoke about her family traditions and favorite foods, which bring people together and honor the past. Thank you, Profe Lucas, for your insight.

Learning Beyond the Classroom at NASA JPL

In science class, the sixth grade begins the year by studying the formation of the universe, the organization of galaxies, and the objects in our solar system.

The students visited NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in La Cañada Flintridge to learn more about robotic missions to explore our solar system.

The students learned about JPL's history of space exploration from Voyager 1 and 2 to the fleet of rovers exploring Mars today. They visited the Spacecraft Assembly Facility to see the progress of the ASTHROS mission, and got to see JPL's Mission Control Center to learn about the Deep Space Network and how NASA communicates with dozens of missions throughout our solar system.

Clairbourn Life

The middle school students were excited for their first buddy reading time with the kindergarteners and first graders this week. Thank you to Mrs. Ward for curating a set of back-to-school and fall themed picture books for the students to read in the beautiful sunshine on the playground. Buddy reading provides a chance to celebrate books and spend time with Cougars across the grade levels.

What an incredible community! From buddy reading to the first CFA meeting, thank you to each of you for making Clairbourn life so special and enriching.
