Thank You for Supporting CAST!

Last week the CAST production of Superheroes, Unite! performed for our 1st-8th grade audiences and parents. The show was action-packed, and our CAST did an incredible job bringing their characters to life through comedic and suspenseful storytelling. In the end, through teamwork and togetherness, our heroes saved Nova City from the villainous clutches of the evil Colonel Mustard and his vengeful team. In addition to excitement and suspense, the play shared a meaningful message about the strength of communities that come together and collaborate. Every character was a hit, and the laugh lines never failed!

Thank you to all who attended and supported our students! We are incredibly proud of the dedication and talent of our cast and crew. Their hard work made this production such an amazing success.
A special thank you to our music and drama teacher, Mr. Elmore, for his tireless work, and to our art teacher, Ms. Germonprez, for her creative support. (CAST video on the left)

Door of Hope

Making a difference, one coin at a time

Each year, Clairbourn’s second graders participate in a meaningful week-long service learning project. Our students learned about homelessness while raising funds to support a local transitional shelter for families in need. Second graders strengthened their math skills as they sorted and counted daily donations of coins and bills. They also developed their confidence and public speaking skills by collecting contributions on campus and sharing daily reports during morning assembly. This special project fostered our students' empathy and compassion for people struggling with difficult circumstances. They learned that even a small donation makes a difference to those in need.

We are grateful for the participation of staff, students, and parents who make an effort to donate. Clairbourn's generosity and commitment to the community are what make our pocket change drive such a success, and we deeply value our longstanding partnership. Students collected a total of $3,944.04. Bravo!

This year’s visit to Door of Hope included a special moment, when one of our own alumni welcomed the second graders to our tour. Lennon Standridge is now a high school senior who volunteers at Door of Hope. It was a memorable and meaningful connection for our students.

The Great Bunny Burrow Build

Where creativity digs deep!

Our first-grade students put their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to the test with an exciting engineering challenge.
Their mission was to design and build a burrow that would keep a bunny safe, dry, and cozy during spring rain, but still allow for easy entry and exit through its shelter.

Working in small groups, students brainstormed ideas, sketched out their plans, and carefully decided how to create structures that were both sturdy and functional. Using a variety of materials such as aluminum foil, popsicle sticks, cardboard, plastic wrap, and duct tape, they brought their imaginative designs to life.

First graders also added an extra layer of complexity and excitement to their designs by incorporating
spin hinges to engineer a working door. Using tools, students measured,  cut, and assembled their burrows themselves, making adjustments after each test trial.

The result? A collection of creative, one-of-a-kind bunny homes and a classroom full of proud young engineers. Be sure to take a closer look at the imaginative designs our first graders created during this hands-on learning adventure!

Preschool Highlight

Our preschoolers kicked off their Community Helpers unit with an exciting visit from the San Gabriel Fire Department! Students met real firefighters who modeled their special gear and explained how each piece keeps them safe on the job. The children had the chance to check out the fire truck up close, and everyone took a turn holding the water hose!

Preschoolers also learned important fire safety tips, like when and how to call 911 in an emergency. Our visitors even demonstrated some of the essential tools firefighters use every day. Each child earned a sticker badge and their very own firefighter hat for their participation!

Clairbourn Life

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Our campus was full of students and staff dressed in their brightest and most creative shades of green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
From finding gold coins to clovers, it was definitely a festive time. Preschool embarked on a lively leprechaun hunt with their homemade leprechaun traps. They didn't catch any this year, but they were hot on the trail all day. What a lucky day at Clairbourn!

Crazy Hair & Mismatch Clothes Day

From mismatched, colorful socks to silly, oversized wigs, everyone embraced the spirit of individuality for Crazy Hair & Mismatch Clothes Day! Students and staff came to school with the most imaginative hairstyles, featuring everything from bright accessories to bold wigs that made each look truly one-of-a-kind. What a fun mid-week burst of color and creativity!

Preschool Slime Auction Party

Some of our preschool friends also joined in on a special Slime Party last Friday as part of our school auction festivities! Students had a blast creating their very own colorful slime, mixing in glitter and sparkles to make each slime unique. It was a hands-on, sensory-filled experience, and definitely a highlight of the week!

Honoring our Mathletes

This year, our math team took on the California Math League, an annual competition where students answer 30 questions in just 30 minutes. It was a true test of speed, focus, and brainpower!

Congratulations to the top 5 students from each grade level:

6th Grade: Stanley, Kyle, Rodwin, Yunchen, and Mia
7th Grade: Celine, Mars, Atticus, Jeremy, and Zoey
8th Grade: Victor, Eric, Hins, Austin, and Milton

Congratulations to all of our mathletes for their impressive achievements! We are so proud of you!

Art, Adventure, and Ancient Traditions

Sixth grade enriched their knowledge of Hinduism and Buddhism by visiting the Norton Simon Museum.  They analyzed beautiful bronze sculptures of Hindu gods such as Shiva, Vishnu and Hanuman, and large stone sculptures of the Buddha.

The docents were impressed with students' knowledge of the symbolism and hand gestures in the statues. Students compared two different statues of the Buddha, and made collaborative sketches of the statues. It was a memorable experience, and 6th grade learned a lot. Thank you so much to the Norton Simon for a great trip!

Women's History Month

March marks our annual celebration of Women’s History Month. In honor of the women who make our world great, Student Council shared two presentations about Ella Baker and Amy Beach.

Amy Beach was a gifted composer and pianist from New Hampshire. Born in 1867, Beach showed extraordinary musical talent from a very young age, and began composing original works by the age of four. By age 25, Beach moved to Boston and gained national recognition for original compositions such as Mass in E-Flat and Gaelic Symphony. A dedicated advocate for women in the arts, she founded the Society of American Women Composers in 1925 and became its first president. Beach’s lasting legacy is not only her extraordinary talent, but also her leadership and commitment to advancing opportunities for women in music.

Ella Baker was a dedicated civil rights leader born in 1903 in Norfolk, Virginia. Through grassroots organizing, Baker played a key role in advancing equality and justice in the U.S. She worked behind the scenes with major organizations like the NAACP, and later became a trusted advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Baker empowered young people to take an active role in the civil rights movement through her mentorship of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and by leading sit-ins and voter registration efforts. This month, we remember Ella Baker for her lasting impact, her belief in collective leadership, and her commitment to uplifting everyday voices in the fight for justice.

Let their perseverance and dedication continue to inspire others!

Supporting Door of Hope: Thank you for being Scholars and Leaders with Heart!

Clairbourn has a long and meaningful tradition of supporting Door of Hope, a Pasadena-based nonprofit founded in 1985. For four decades, Door of Hope has walked alongside families in crisis by partnering with parents and children experiencing homelessness to secure safe shelter, helping families on the brink of eviction stay housed, and guiding those devastated by the Eaton Fire as they move toward stable, permanent housing.

Today, we invite the Clairbourn community to continue this legacy of compassion and leadership by supporting Door of Hope through the following programs:

Transitional housing, homelessness prevention, Eaton Fire recovery, support children across programs — Click here to read more details on each category.

Please consider making a gift to support Door of Hope’s programs. For any questions, please contact Armine Mikayelyan, CFA Chair for Heartfelt Giving!

Together, we can ensure local parents and children have not just shelter — but safety, stability, and a renewed sense of hope.
