Superheroes, Unite!

Superheroes, Unite! is coming to the MPB on Friday, March 20 at 6 p.m.

Calling all superheroes! The citizens of Nova City need a patron superhero to save them from the evil clutches of the nefarious Colonel Mustard and his sidekick Hemlock. So what do they do? They hold an audition, of course! Legions of fantastic, incredible, and uncanny characters descend upon City Hall hoping the mayor and police commissioner might marvel at their strange powers, which range from super strength to super speed, from mind reading to animal whispering, from quoting Shakespeare to pointing out irony. Okay, so some superpowers are more helpful than others, but when Colonel Mustard unleashes a surprise attack on City Hall, both the mighty and the average must join together to bring justice and security to Nova City.

There will be two performances for students: Wednesday, March 18, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. for grades 4 - 8 and Thursday, March 19, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. for grades 1 - 3. A final public showing for all guests will be held on Friday, March 20 at 6 p.m. The Friday performance tickets are on sale for $10.

Clairbourn’s 100th Anniversary Gala Was Unforgettable!

Dear Clairbourn Families,

On behalf of the CFA, thank you for joining us to celebrate and for supporting your children’s education at our Centennial Benefit Fundraiser Gala this past weekend.

Held on March 14 at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena, the evening brought together 250 parents, teachers, faculty, alumni, trustees, and friends of the school. It was a beautiful night filled with inspiring performances, meaningful moments, wonderful dining, and joyful celebration. Most importantly, we are proud to share that our largest fundraiser of the century raised more than $240,000 to support enrichment and educational opportunities for our students.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our generous sponsors—our Diamond Champions, the Manwani, Kler, Nijjar, Luo, and Lam families, and our Platinum Partner, the Chang family—as well as the 30+ families who contributed to the Teachers Gala Fund. Your leadership and generosity made this evening possible.

A key highlight of the gala was our annual auction, featuring both silent and live components. We are deeply grateful to all the donors, teachers, and parents who contributed auction items—your generosity and creativity made this success possible.

Finally, we would like to recognize the entire Centennial Benefit Team—Mastaneh Wazni, Apryle Ferguson, Melissa Nijjar, Ting Sung, Fiona Zhang, Dana Lee Wong, Siyi Zhao, Shirley Zhang, Leidy Nijjar, Debra Sun, and Tekoah Kler—for their tireless work over the past year. This event would not have been possible without their commitment and passion.

For a century, our school has shaped minds, built character, and created lifelong friendships. Thanks to your continued support, we look forward to an even brighter future for our children.

Cheers to the next 100 years!

A Read Across America Celebration

For Read Across America Week, third grade students visited preschool to read with our youngest Cougars in JPK and PK. The preschoolers have been following the third graders’ Oregon Trail unit, so it was especially fun to interact with them in person and see their pioneer costumes up close.

It was wonderful to see so many excited, smiling faces as connections were made between the older and younger students.

Preschoolers also welcomed special guest readers from the Administration Office, including Dr. Patzlaff, who visited classrooms for storytime. What a treat! The love of learning and literature continues to shine across campus.

Field Trip Highlights

First grade enjoyed a memorable field trip to the LA Zoo last Wednesday. Students participated in a docent-guided tour and explored many fascinating animals. Some of their favorites included sloths, porcupines, snow leopards, rhinos, alligators, and axolotls. In class, students have been studying animal groups, and the zoo docents were impressed with how much they already knew.

A special highlight was seeing the orangutans, gorillas, and chimpanzees with their newborn babies. Students also loved watching the giraffes use their long necks and tongues to reach leaves high in the trees. It was a wonderful day filled with discovery and learning about the animal world.

Benefit Auction

Auction items are still available for a limited time. Don’t miss your chance to purchase! Please visit the store to see which items are currently available, including the first grade puppy party with Ms. Dezutter and her puppy Brigitte, the picnic art party with Ms. Martinez, and the Top Golf experience donated by Mr. Woo.

Pi Day Announcement

This past week, twelve middle school students participated in our Pi Digits Reciting Competition. Some students memorized around 20 digits, others reached about 50 digits, and we even had 3 students recite at least 70 digits of pi. Our top three winners each received pies last Friday at morning assembly.

The third-place winner is eighth grader Ethan, who recited about 70 digits of pi. The second-place winner is eighth grader Milton, who recited around 80 digits. Our 2026 Clairbourn Pi Reciting Champion is sixth grader Rodwin, who recited about 90 digits of pi! We enjoyed hearing him recite them again live during Morning Assembly in front of the whole school.

We are proud of you, Cougars!

Embracing Samurai Spirit

Seventh graders utilized their knowledge about Japanese Medieval Samurai. As they worked together in groups of three, they researched weaponry, armor, the Bushido - the code that samurai follow to be honorable soldiers and citizens, and wrote their own haikus about the famous battles where the samurai defeated the Mongols! They studied the social hierarchy of that time as well. What an engaging way to end the history unit about medieval Japan.

Pi Day Meets PEMDAS

Third grade teacher Mr. Berglund and fifth grade teacher Mr. Zimmerman hosted a fun PEMDAS math competition for the third grade class. Students were divided into two teams, and the winning team earned a special reward — the chance to throw a pie at their teacher in celebration of Pi Day! Thank you, Mr. Berglund and Mr. Zimmerman, for encouraging a love of learning in math through thoughtful and creative approaches.

Supporting Door of Hope: Thank you for being Scholars and Leaders with Heart!

Clairbourn has a long and meaningful tradition of supporting Door of Hope, a Pasadena-based nonprofit founded in 1985. For four decades, Door of Hope has walked alongside families in crisis by partnering with parents and children experiencing homelessness to secure safe shelter, helping families on the brink of eviction stay housed, and guiding those devastated by the Eaton Fire as they move toward stable, permanent housing.

Today, we invite the Clairbourn community to continue this legacy of compassion and leadership by supporting Door of Hope through the following programs:

• Transitional housing, homelessness prevention, Eaton Fire recovery, support children across programs — Click here to read more details on each category.

• Please consider making a gift to support Door of Hope’s programs. For any questions, please contact Armine Mikayelyan, CFA Chair for Heartfelt Giving!

Together, we can ensure local parents and children have not just shelter — but safety, stability, and a renewed sense of hope.
