The fourth graders visited the San Juan Capistrano Mission for their field trip.
The fourth grade had a field trip full of learning yesterday at San Juan Capistrano mission. During our visit, we stepped back into 1776 and practiced the messy, hands-on process of crafting adobe bricks from sand, dirt, and hay. We stood in the shadows of the Great Stone Church and learned how a massive earthquake tragically destroyed the building just six years after it was finished.
Our students were amazed to hear the ringing of the mission bells, four of which are the original bronze bells from the 1700s. We also honored the memory of the 3,000 people buried on the grounds, including the Acjachemen people who built and maintained the site.
Everyone explored the outdoor kitchens where Native Americans cooked meals, managed livestock, and developed the mission's vast farmland. It was an incredible day of history that brought the legacy of California's "Jewel of the Missions" to life for everyone. |
Thank you for being Scholars and Leaders with Heart!
Clairbourn has a long and meaningful tradition of supporting Door of Hope, a Pasadena-based nonprofit founded in 1985. For four decades, Door of Hope has walked alongside families in crisis by partnering with parents and children experiencing homelessness to secure safe shelter, helping families on the brink of eviction stay housed, and guiding those devastated by the Eaton Fire as they move toward stable, permanent housing.
Today, we invite the Clairbourn community to continue this legacy of compassion and leadership by supporting Door of Hope through the following programs:
Together, we can ensure local parents and children have not just shelter — but safety, stability, and a renewed sense of hope.

Pioneer Journey Update
Third grade has begun their journey out west on the Oregon Trail! Not only do they learn about the journey traveled, but they also learn the ways of pioneer life. Working in family groups, students have taken on a pioneer persona (including a new name) and each day join other families in a wagon train to move across the country.
Let's read one of the student's journals through the pioneer journey so far —
"Today, we set off on the trail! Since it had rained, the trail was muddy. Our family had to leave our gramma's clock behind and another family, the Carson family had to leave behind their furniture. I was really sad but at least we had reached our first landmark the Santa Fe Oregon Trail Fork. It took three days or 30 miles for us to reach Santa Fe. Next, we reached the Blue Mound! My children both ran to the top and they told me they saw birds and lots of plains. After that, we stopped for lunch. Me and the other moms made cornbread and beans. The cornbread was sweet and yummy. The beans tasted weird and salty. I didn't like the beans. Then, we reached Alcove Springs. I got water and took a quick shower. Lastly, we reached Fort Kearny where we got our wagons repaired. Getting to Fort Kearny took 31 days and 319 miles. My feet are sore and my family were exhausted. But we successfully traveled one month without problem!"

C.A.S.T. is Proud to Present: Superheroes, Unite!
Superheroes, Unite! is coming to the MPB on Friday, March 20 at 6 p.m.
Calling all superheroes! The citizens of Nova City need a patron superhero to save them from the evil clutches of the nefarious Colonel Mustard and his sidekick Hemlock. So what do they do? They hold an audition, of course! Legions of fantastic, incredible, and uncanny characters descend upon City Hall hoping the mayor and police commissioner might marvel at their strange powers, which range from super strength to super speed, from mind reading to animal whispering, from quoting Shakespeare to pointing out irony. Okay, so some superpowers are more helpful than others, but when Colonel Mustard unleashes a surprise attack on City Hall, both the mighty and the average must join together to bring justice and security to Nova City.

There will be two performances for students: Wednesday, March 18, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. for grades 4 to 8 and Thursday, March 19, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. for grades 1 - 3. A final public showing for all guests will be held on Friday, March 20 at 6 p.m. The Friday performance tickets are now on sale for $10. |
