February Drop
Everything & Build

The Great Lunar Dragon Build

For this month’s Drop Everything & Build challenge, the middle school students were tasked with making the longest Lunar New Year dragon they could out of paper cups, elevated on only three clothespins, using a little bit of tape. Teams of engineers tried a variety of strategies to balance their dragons while adding as much length as possible. Balancing the builds on clothespins proved to be a big challenge, and the engineers had to come up with creative uses of their supports.  In the end…

In the sixth grade, the two teams of runners-up were Kyle and Everest and Jason and Tony, and the longest dragon was built by Lara and George. In the eighth grade, the runners-up were Austin and Hins, and the longest dragon was built by Eric and Kevin. And in the seventh grade, the runners-up were Kaitlin and Naveen, and the longest dragon in the entire middle school was built by Emma and Angela.
Kindergarteners Spread Love While Learning How the Postal System Works

Did you know Americans have celebrated Valentine’s Day since the 19th century? Kindergarteners wrapped up their Post Office learning unit, modeled after the actual U.S. Postal Service, where students practiced math skills by counting money as cashiers and sorting mail. They worked together to strengthen their fine motor skills and gained hands-on service-learning experience. Each student created Valentine’s Day cards to mail to classmates. Students processed up to 45 pieces of mail each day during their learning unit. Good job, Cougars!

C.A.S.T. is
Proud
to Present: Superheroes, Unite!

Superheroes, Unite! is coming to the MPB on Friday, March 20 at 6 p.m.

Calling all superheroes! The citizens of Nova City need a patron superhero to save them from the evil clutches of the nefarious Colonel Mustard and his sidekick Hemlock. So what do they do? They hold an audition, of course! Legions of fantastic, incredible, and uncanny characters descend upon City Hall hoping the mayor and police commissioner might marvel at their strange powers, which range from super strength to super speed, from mind reading to animal whispering, from quoting Shakespeare to pointing out irony. Okay, so some superpowers are more helpful than others, but when Colonel Mustard unleashes a surprise attack on City Hall, both the mighty and the average must join together to bring justice and security to Nova City.

There will be two performances for students: Wednesday, March 18, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. for grades 4 to 8 and Thursday, March 19, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. for grades 1 - 3. A final public showing for all guests will be held on Friday, March 20 at 6 p.m. The Friday performance tickets are now on sale for $10.

Centennial Gala: Auction Donations and Highlights
