Clairbourn Insights
This year, third grade is proud to support Friends in Deed of Pasadena through our service learning project. Their food pantry provides critical food assistance to low-income and no-income families across the greater Pasadena and Altadena areas, serving more than 650 households each week. Over the past two weeks, third grade families generously purchased items to donate to the food pantry. Our Cougars delivered donations, toured the pantry, and heard firsthand how this support makes a meaningful difference in the lives of local families.

First Graders Shine as Storytellers
Sharing Imaginative Tales in a Beloved Library Tradition
We love watching our first graders unleash the magic of storytelling in the library for their "Storyteller of the Week" program. They read their own stories inspired by wordless picture books and share their imaginative tales with their classmates while seated in the special storyteller's chair! This tradition is a treasured memory for many of our older students!

Field Trip Highlights
From Wonder to Discovery: Learning Beyond the Classroom
Kindergarten students enjoyed a field trip to the San Marino Post Office as they kicked off their postal learning unit. Students met the postmaster, purchased stamps, mailed letters, observed how mail is processed, and even inspected a mail truck. Back on campus, the Blue and Gold Dragonfly Post Office, modeled after the U.S. Postal Service, is now officially open, giving students continued opportunities to practice math skills, build fine motor skills, collaborate with classmates, and gain service-learning experience. Students will also create Valentine’s Day cards to mail to their peers and we can't wait to hear more about it!
Fifth graders visited the Glendale Community College Planetarium to deepen their understanding of light, space, and key fifth-grade science concepts related to waves, gravity, and the solar system. Students explored planetarium simulations and learned how scientists use tools like spectroscopes to study light and identify gases in distant planetary atmospheres. They discovered how light travels through space, how scientific classifications of planets have changed over time, and how gravity shapes objects such as Saturn’s rings. Highlights included experiencing the vast scale of the Milky Way, learning how different cultures interpreted the night sky, and realizing that Saturn’s rings are made up of billions of icy particles rather than a solid disk. This field trip reinforced classroom learning and brought complex science concepts to life.
At Clairbourn, the experiential learning grows alongside our students — one discovery at a time!

Students Grow in Rhythm, Pitch, and Theory!
In our rich music program, students of all ages explore the wonderful world of sound. Our youngest learners explore rhythm and pitch with singing and percussion instruments, while lower school students learn to play melodies and harmonies and put them together, and third graders strum their way through the basics of music with the baritone ukulele. Building upon their skills, older students elevate their musical foundation through dynamic percussion and band ensembles.
Our intermediate and advanced band members from fourth to eighth grades enjoy rehearsing and learning new pieces together! At Clairbourn, students learn not only the performance side of music but also the theory behind it.
