Insect Unit in Kindergarten:
Life Cycles & Biology

Our kindergarteners have been busy learning science and biology! Students observed silkworms hatching and learned about their life cycles. They wrote entries in their silkworm journals to record the process. Each student selected their own silkworm, made a little home for it and
observed it spinning the cocoon! Besides silkworms, kindergarteners also learned about ladybugs, caterpillars and praying mantises! This project is fulfilling the Next Generation Science Standards for kindergarten to learn about life cycles. Next time you get a chance, take a peek into the kindergarten classroom. Some of the moths have already emerged, and the students will soon get the watch the females lay their eggs!

Did you know?
Silk thread is actually hardened silkworm saliva and on larger silkworms it is possible to see eight pairs of legs, claspers and a beating heart. Silkworms do not have lungs and breath through small holes in the sides of their body!
Winnie-the-Pooh

For over fifteen years, Clairbourn has had the tradition of presenting a Winnie-the-Pooh play during the school year!

The author of Winnie-the-Pooh wrote many stories about Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood.
Clairbourn’s Winnie the Pooh play, In Which Tigger Finds His Family, is about friendship, love, and family. Families come in all shapes and sizes; not all include a mother and father or siblings. Sometimes, families are made up of friends or a community!

This year, eighth graders performed in two casts for the production, which was presented to younger students from JPK through third grade. We enjoyed a fun performance from the first cast this week and look forward to seeing the second cast perform next week!
It's time for...
Expert Thursday!

Second grade has been developing students' public speaking skills during our Expert Thursday project. Each Thursday, students in each class present on topics they are experts about. We have had some wonderful presentations on Pokemon, traveling, Latin dancing, drum playing, painting, and much more. After each presentation, the expert takes questions from the class. It is wonderful to see these young students develop their confidence for speaking before a group.
Scholars. Leaders. Heart.

The Art Show was a tremendous success, highlighting a wide range of styles and mediums. Each piece reflected the creativity of our students, who proudly guided their families through the displays, eagerly finding their own work and admiring the art of their peers.

We also celebrated a fantastic year together at Open House, where the depth of learning and growth in every classroom was on full display. As one teacher shared, “It was a magical evening! We were moved by the genuine care of each and every person we encountered.”

Last but not least, a very special thank you to Mrs. Kiertzner and Mr. Elmore for leading our musicians in an outstanding concert that showcased their talent and dedication!

Thank you to everyone who made our Open House, Instrumental Concert, and Art Show such a memorable evening!
