Clairbourn Insights

Kindergarten's cross-curricular service learning project

Our kindergarten classes had a can and plastic bottle drive as their service learning project to help the Los Angeles Bee Association. They raised money from the cans and bottles to help with honey bee research and education. This unique service learning project teaches the students how to care for our environment!

Students enjoyed meeting the representatives from the Los Angeles Bee Association. They were most excited to observe the queen bee and watch her move in the hive. Mary Landau, a retired school teacher, used props, posters and pictures to teach many interesting facts about bees. She also showed the kindergarteners how bees collect and process pollen. Our Cougars had fun pretending to be bees while mimicking their pollen and nectar collection process!

Did you know?
Baby bees get fed 1,000 times a day! Bees have five eyes. Male bees do not sting and have bigger eyes. If you blow your breath on the bees, they became agitated and get louder and move faster. This is because it makes them think that there is a predator nearby and they need to flee!
Class of 2025 Highlights

Look How Much They Have GROWN!

We are proud of our mighty Class of 2025! Some of our eighth graders are Clairbourn lifers and have been Cougars since preschool or kindergarten, while others joined us later on in middle school. Join us to congratulate and celebrate them as we begin the highlight series of our graduating class!

Thank you for celebrating community with us!

Our Spring Concert was a Smashing Success!

This year’s Spring Concert was truly special. Beyond the beautiful singing voices of our JPK through fifth-grade students, their performance shared meaningful messages from Dr. Seuss songs. They reminded us anything is possible, to take responsibility, and most importantly, to never give up hope.

The students encouraged us not to prejudge others because we never know what we’re capable of until we try and to view the world with open hearts and growth mindsets. The concert ended on a heartwarming note, with
everyone embracing each other singing the message of love. We hope you enjoyed the concert as much as we did!

Special thank you to Ms. Kiertzner and Mr. Elmore for a great show, the administration for your support, to JPK through fifth grade teachers for your assistance and patience, and to the maintenance crew for your hard work and clever ideas!
Clairbourn Families Association (CFA)

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our Spring Carnival this year!

This year's Carnival was a testament to the unwavering spirit and dedication of our community. The heartwarming reward of witnessing the children's joy, hearing their laughter, and seeing the beaming faces of our parents reaffirms why we are so fortunate to be part of the Clairbourn family. Even the rain couldn't stop our joy!

None of this would have been possible without the tremendous support of our generous sponsors and donors, dedicated members of the CFA, the Carnival committee and the Clairbourn staff, faculty and maintenance team (click here for a complete list of names). We extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of them!

Full of Gratitude,
Eric Sasahara, John Shieh, Chin A. Guok and Brian Chung

Auction Item Highlights: Marketing Director for the Day

Fourth grader Evangeline was the Director of Communications and Marketing this Tuesday! She had a productive meeting with Dr. Patzlaff and Mrs. Zamora, and covered photography requests for classroom visits to music and PE. Her favorite thing to photograph was to capture the smiles of her friends and the helping hands of other students! She also got to invite friends to join her for lunch at the Manor House, enjoy ice cream, and make a wellness bag.

Don’t forget to check out Evangeline’s photo album and her Clairbourn Theme poster by the transportation display! When asked what inspired her poster, she replied, “I want to produce a poster that is Clairbourn and highlight all the wonderful things that are important to me, like friends being kind to each other.”

Thank you, Evangeline, for a great day as Director of Marketing and for reminding us of the power of kindness all around campus!

Teacher Appreciation
Week is May 5 - 9

Let’s show our gratitude to the amazing teachers, specialists, and staff who support our children every day! Families and students are invited to stop by our tables before or after school to write a special note of appreciation. Students will also have the chance to add their name or fingerprint to a surprise gift for their teachers! For questions, please contact Vanessa Hernandez.

Clairbourn Connection

Alumni Return for the Carnival! It is always a joy to welcome back our alumni to the Carnival! This year, we were thrilled to see alum representatives from the Class of 2024 all the way back to the Class of 1970! Some alumni brought their families, while others generously volunteered at our game booths—thank you for being part of the fun!

We love seeing our alumni stay connected to Clairbourn. If you have a favorite memory or story about a Clairbourn alum, we would love to hear it! Help us celebrate our Cougar community—share your stories with us!
